Changing Perspectives, One Teacher at a Time
“TIP has given me a different perspective on teaching and engaging children in the teaching-learning process,”
Kamini Dixit, Teacher, Primary School Rastipura, Burhanpur, Madhya Pradesh
Kamini Dixit teaches at the Rastipura government school in Burhanpur. Her passion for teaching burns bright; she entered the profession driven by a desire to transform children's lives through education. Over her 16-year career, she's taught countless children, many of whom have gone on to thrive. “I’ve always been enthusiastic,” she says, “and so proud that the children enjoy my teaching and actually learn from it.” That enthusiasm, she explains, doubled when she joined the Teacher Innovator Program (TIP). “Before,” she admits, “I only knew a few ways to engage the children. However, the TIP maths training with CEQUE opened my eyes to so many new methods and pedagogies. I tried them in the classroom, and they worked wonders!”
Children practising number bonds in class taught by teacher Kamini
Teacher Kamini used to rely on traditional lectures, giving her students limited opportunities to speak or interact. Now, her classroom buzzes with activity. She's embraced group work, peer learning, and demonstrations. The children are constantly collaborating, sharing ideas, and presenting their work to the class. This, she’s noticed, has done wonders for their confidence. She's even introduced the number bond model to help them grasp mathematical concepts.
And Teacher Kamini doesn't stop there. After each presentation, the children’s work is proudly displayed on the school wall. It’s a clever strategy, allowing them to revisit the lessons regularly, and, more importantly, giving them a huge sense of accomplishment to see their group projects celebrated.
