Teacher Innovator Program

Great teachers are not born, they are made.

A teacher is responsible for moulding of young minds. A good teacher educates, a great teacher inspires. At CEQUE, our motto is that ‘Every child deserves a great teacher’. We understand that Teachers require specific knowledge and expertise to succeed in the classroom. While traditional teacher training often relies on centrally planned workshops, these isolated events lack in-classroom support, making it difficult for teachers to implement and sustain new skills. Consequently, these trainings often have minimal impact on the actual needs of teachers and do little to shift rote-based teaching practices.

Our approach to teacher development is fundamentally different. We empower teachers to take ownership of their professional growth by fostering peer-to-peer support and collaborative learning. Our intensive coaching model provides both in-classroom and external guidance, focusing on student-centered pedagogies.

Teacher Innovator Program

CEQUE's flagship Teacher Innovator Program empowers teachers from government and low-income private schools to enhance their teaching methodologies and positively impact student learning. Working in partnership with local education departments, the program focuses on developing reading, writing, and math skills for students in grades 1-5.

The Teacher Innovator Program partners with district administrations to improve the quality of student learning in their districts. 100 schools are selected as innovation lab schools in each intervention district. The program works intensively and long-term with the teachers to help them learn to create engaging and result-oriented learning experiences for their students.

Aligned with the state’s curricula in Language and Mathematics for grades 1-5, the program supports teachers on:

  • Foundational Literacy & Numeracy

  • Reading with Comprehension

  • Story Writing

  • Numbers Sense, Operations and Fractions

Our Model

  • Partner with the district education department for 3 to 5 years

  • Identify an intervention block collaboratively

  • Enrol all schools in that block (approx 100-150) to become part of the program

  • Engage district administrations in program support and review

Impact

The Impact of the program is measured along 4 indicators:

  • Teacher Reaction to the relevance of the content to their teaching practice.

  • Teacher Learning that measures their mastery over the new methods learned.

  • Teacher Practice that evaluates the improvement in their teaching practice.

  • Student Competency that measures changes in student achievement.

Currently, the program focuses on the districts of Thane, Nashik, Palghar, Chandrapur, and Yavatmal in Maharashtra, Indore and Burhanpur in Madhya Pradesh, and Belgavi or Belgaum in Karnataka. Over an average lifetime of 20 years of service, teachers we work with will impact the lives of approximately 2,64,000 children.

Stories of Change

"Constant coaching and guidance by the CEQUE team helped me to adopt innovative teaching methods in my classroom. As a result, no child is left behind. I learned to prepare need and level-based lesson plans. Giving what children need for learning enhanced their interest and participation in the teaching-learning process."

Arti Shrivastava, Government Primary School Mayakhedi, Indore

"The FTNL (First-Then-Next-Last) method has increased students' comprehension and confidence in expressing themselves thoughtfully. It has become easier for children to identify parts of the lesson – Beginning, Then, Next, End. This has improved their creativity and communication skills. A collaborative atmosphere has been created in the classroom, making language learning more enjoyable and effective. The FTNL method has been useful for the overall development of students."

Avinash Shende, ZP School Shendri, Yavatmal

“The math workbooks that you have created for students are really fun and helpful. Children enjoy solving problems because the concepts are explained well. The Fractions section has lots of pictures for them to colour, making learning feel like a game. It's a great way for kids to learn while having fun.”

Varsha Bhanushali, ZP School Dawalpada, Thane
